What Do Chaplains Do?
Chaplains are trained to assist persons, using spiritual and religious resources, in times of crisis and wellness. After a spiritual screening by the admission nurse, chaplains can provide:
- Spiritual assessment and pastoral planning
- Advance Directive consultations
- End-of-life care
- Grief and bereavement support
- Value education and lifestyle guidance
- Connection to faith communities
- Meaningful prayer, scriptural, sacramental and ritual experiences as resources for healing
Chaplains are members of the interdisciplinary team, documenting their ministry in the patient’s chart for the holistic care of patients and families.
At CSRH-CC, chaplains also:
- Assist with short term spiritual direction
- Facilitate complementary healing modalities (CAM), e.g. guided meditation, healing touch, music therapy, breath work
Many CSRH-CC chaplains are bi-lingual.
All are trained in multi-cultural competencies.
